Coating for windows and wooden components, Building waterproofing and refurbishment, Facade protection and refurbishment

Description

The buildings of "New Holland" have been restored several times over the years and have been repeatedly supplemented with new buildings and extensions. All buildings were damaged inside as well as on the facade and roof. The brick facades in particular, which were heavily soaked through, posed a major problem. In addition, damage to the masonry and the cladding of the plinths was detected. During the restoration of the brick masonry, the varying condition as well as the heterogeneous nature proved to be a particular challenge. There was also high salt content, which could be damaging to the building and therefore had to be reduced. Finally, the aim was to achieve the most harmonious possible colour matching of the stone surfaces.

Heritage conservation

Description

The major fire in the cathedral took a heavy toll on the natural stone masonry. Soot and released pollutants settled on and in the walls, causing damage to them. Cleaning was carried out using a solvent-free, film-binding peel-off paste, which traps the impurities. The layer that forms is then stripped off to remove the particles from the masonry.

Description

'

Sustainability played a major role in the choice of materials: The wood for the staircase came from sustainable forestry and the wood waste generated during the construction of the staircase was also reused. The products used were also chosen for their sustainable credentials. At the same time, they also need to withstand the high loads that are exerted on the stairs and floors by numerous visitors over long periods of time.'

Building waterproofing and refurbishment

Description

The new construction of the underwater world and the large aviary in Luisenpark had to be finished with flat roof structures that would provide reliable waterproofing over the long term. Due to the exposed location and the construction-related moisture load, the flat roofs are the part of the building that is subject to the most stress. A flat roof is exposed not only to rainwater, but also to extreme temperature differences, complex structural-physical interactions and mechanical loads, such as stresses caused by expansion, shrinkage and deflection of the structure. The individuality of the roof construction presented planners and contractors with particular challenges when waterproofing the flat roof construction. But a quick and easy solution was found in the form of MB PUReactive+.

Flooring systems for the food industry, Floor coatings

Description

The Hagn family commissioned the conversion of a former storage depot for the delivery, production and distribution of red and white wine. The project called for the installation of an industrial floor that could meet the hygiene requirements of the food production sector and the loads exerted by the transport vehicles. The decision was taken to use a chemically and mechanically resilient, pigmented epoxy coating that fulfils all the physical and hygienic criteria.

Facade protection and refurbishment, Heritage conservation

Description

Numerous sandstone buildings in the park have been damaged or destroyed over the centuries due to peeling, iron crusts and salt exposure. To counteract the exponential progression of weathering, classic and elasticising stone strengtheners were used on the walls, decorative elements and sculptures. With the help of a special binding agent, various additives were used to produce and apply injection compounds, battering mortar and glazes on site.

Building waterproofing and refurbishment, Floor coatings

Description

Two solutions were used to waterproof the house. The first step was to seal the ground floor base. This was done from above. The base of the house was then waterproofed from the outside. This protects the substrate of the building from moisture on both sides.

Floor coatings

Description

After extensive trials and chemical exposure testing, Remmers resin systems were selected for the works. For the ceiling, Epoxy BS3000 SG provided chemical protection to the galvanised steel surface and exhibited excellent adhesive properties after the steel was prepared using an ice blasting process. The floors were a mixture of existing resin finishes, new concrete and Polypropylene drain covers. A selection of priming solutions for the different areas were utilised including, Epoxy ST100, Epoxy MT100 and Epoxy BS3000 SG. Then topped with Epoxy Flex PH laid at 2mm and sealed with PUR Top M+. Integral coved skirting was installed to all perimeters, 100mm high.
